St. Thomas Church Mallikassery

The main thrust of the parish is faith-formation in the context of a fast changing modern world. The idea of a church in Mallikassery took shape towards its realization in the early months of 1954. As there was the awareness that the efficacy of a parish depends on faith-formation, arrangements were made for religious instruction too. The Sunday School, Mallikassery dates back to May 30, 1954. Under the devoted guidance of the vicars down the years effective steps for faith-formation were taken.

The Sunday school, Mallikassery was adjudged the Best Sunday School of Pala Diocese for the school year 1991- 92 and was awarded accordingly. At present there are around 225 children on the rolls of the Sunday School distributed from class I to XII. Besides Fr. Vicar, the Director, there are 15 teachers who render selfless service in the field of faith- formation. The Sunday School functions every Sunday from 9.30 am to 1 pm. with Morning prayer, Holy Qurbana, Assembly and Religion classes. The Sunday school children participate enthusiastically in Sunday school Fest, scholar-ship examinations and Logos quiz devised to foster the study of the Word of God. Various programmes are conducted with a view to boning the latent talents of the children. Retreats,seminars, classes for promoting vocations etc are held from time to time. Public meetings and get-togethers are arranged in connection with the feasts like Dukkarana, the Assumption of blessed Virgin Mary, Feast of Little flower and Mission Sunday. 'Viswasoltov' by the end of the school year proves to be an enriching programme, creating a new awareness and awakening in the entire Sunday school community. In order to arouse interest in study among children, scholarships are instituted for all the classes by means of faith- formation classes, the activities of Associations like Mission League are made more effective and efficient.
